Scary Movie Theology
Have you ever seen a scary movie? If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all because it seems like there is the same formula for all of them. There is a group of people and they are in fear of something or someone who is trying to take them out. At first everyone stays together as they try and stay safe, but it never fails - they start breaking off one by one, and each person tries to survive on their own. That is when the threat takes them out! We all see it coming...don’t go into the middle of the woods by yourself…and boom! They’re out. Don’t go into that abandoned house by yourself…and boom! They’re out.
We all see it coming. We might even yell at the screen…”don’t do it!!!!”
We know that the most vulnerable thing for someone is to navigate it all by themselves. So why do we try to navigate life by ourselves? If we insist on doing life alone…we won’t make it for the long haul. We need people. There is safety in having a group of people that you belong to.
Ecclesiastes 4:9 - “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”
We were not designed to do life by ourselves. That is one of my favorite things about the church - the community of people we get to do life with! Don’t be another scary movie statistic and jump into community today!
